In the Islands Trust Area, only Local Trust Committees have authority to control land use. Because land use affects transportation options, building energy use, food production, and other daily activities that produce greenhouse gas emissions, Local Trust Committees can significantly influence the carbon footprint of our islands through Official Community Plan policies.
All Local Trust Committees have been meeting with their communities to seek input on greenhouse gas reduction targets and policies. To support community engagement processes, the Islands Trust has prepared a number of communication tools, including:
