How to Apply

All BC Public opportunities are now opened to both external and internal applicants and current employees. Please review the "applying for positions" answer under Frequently Asked Questions.

Applicants for all positions must contact the Islands Trust
Victoria office or by (unless otherwise stated) for a full list of duties and qualifications (unless otherwise published on this site).

The Islands Trust organization chart will provide you with the current organizational structure.

Applying by E-mail

Each competition has a separate e-mail designated contact person. Please use the e-mail address specified in the competition to apply for the competition. If you have a general employment enquiry, please use the Islands Trust contact form.

We require the following to process your employment application by e-mail:

  • Quote the competition number in the subject line of your e-mail;
  • Quote the job title in the subject line of your e-mail; and,
  • Attach your resume and covering letter in an accepted format

Attention Hotmail and Yahoo Users: Due to a large volume of SPAM generated from Hotmail and Yahoo accounts, please avoid using e-mail accounts from these services when sending e-mails in application for employment with the Islands Trust. Whenever possible, please send e-mails using a different e-mail account.

Eligibility to Apply

You must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada (as defined by Citizenship & Immigration Canada) to be eligible for employment in the British Columbia Public Service.

Some individuals (e.g. foreign students) may have authorization from the Government of Canada to work here on a time limited basis. If you have this authorization you are only eligible for employment if the length and location of the appointment and the nature of the work meets the conditions specified in your authorization documents.

You must be at least 15 years of age and less than 65.

Collective Agreement

Most positions posted on this site are within the BCGEU bargaining unit, thus are covered by a collective agreement. These agreements cover terms of employment such as salaries, overtime, statutory holiday, vacation and other provisions. View the BCGEU Collective Agreement on-line.

Employee Benefits

The Islands Trust also offers employees flexible work arrangements, such as job sharing, a modified work weeks, and deferred salary leave.

Some benefits also apply to those hired on an auxiliary basis, or payment of an hourly premium in lieu of benefits is provided.
