Islands Trust is working closely with governments and agencies as we adapt operations. We are looking into adjusting our meeting processes and will announce changes when we are able.
Changes to BC Ferries Service
In response to COVID-19, changes to ferry services will take place over the coming days and weeks.
Islands Emergency Response Centres
The Province of BC coordinates agencies during a pandemic event. Regional Districts in the Trust Area have the responsibility for coordinating emergency response on the islands. For local information:
Islands Trust Office Locations and Closures - Until Further Notice
- All main offices (Salt Spring Island, Gabriola Island, and Victoria) are closed to the public (with the exception of limited Victoria boardroom availability for Executive Committee meetings).
- All planner hours at smaller, on-island offices, (Denman, Galiano, Mayne, North Pender and Saturna Islands) have been cancelled.
Islands Trust Meeting Cancellations
Islands Trust Meetings
We are seeking alternatives to live public events, such as electronic meetings, in order to maintain public business. Some local trust committee (LTC) decisions will be made by resolution-without-meeting.
Section 26 of the Islands Trust Act allows LTC's to conduct most of their business without holding a meeting in situations where they are unable to meet.
Staff will post staff reports that the local trust committees will consider by resolution-without-meeting on the website, as well as any decisions made by resolution-without-meeting. Local trust committees cannot consider 2nd or 3rd reading for bylaws by resolution-without-meeting.
The Executive Committee will be meeting weekly for the next month to coordinate the Islands Trust response.
Islands Trust Continues Operations
Islands Trust Conservancy
Islands Trust Conservancy meetings have been cancelled up to April 15, 2020.
In order to maintain the Islands Trust Conservancy business, we are seeking alternatives to live public meetings. Islands Trust Conservancy operations continue and staff are available by phone of email. Currently all Islands Trust Conservancy Nature Reserves remain open to the public, but all public events have been cancelled. In collaboration with our island partners, we are monitoring the use of nature reserves to ensure that social distancing measures are being followed. For further information, the public can sign up for the latest news, visit our website at www.islandstrustconservancy.ca or visit us on the Islands Trust Conservancy Facebook page.
Land Use Applications
For new applications or for a general inquiry, call or email one of our offices or contact a planner. If you have an application instream, you will be informed of its status and next steps.
