GB-RZ-2020.1 (Gabriola Housing Society)
This application proposes to rezone two 1 ha (2.47 acre) lots, PID 028-580-095 (Paisley Rd.) and PID 028-580-109 (Paisley Rd.), currently zoned Institutional 3 (IN3) to an appropriate zone that allows for the development of a 24-unit multi-family affordable rental housing project. This application will require amendments to the Gabriola Island Official Community Plan Bylaw No. 166 (OCP) and Land Use Bylaw No. 177 (LUB) to allow residential use and an increase in density.
GB-RZ-2019.1 (BC Ferries Terminal Development)
This application seeks to amend the Gabriola Island Official Community Plan Bylaw No. 166 (OCP) and Land Use Bylaw No. 177 (LUB) for the future marine and upland improvements to the BC Ferries ferry terminal located in Descanso Bay. The proposal includes expansion of the upland terminal and vehicle loading area into the marine area by adding fill to the adjacent foreshore; construction of a new waiting room/washroom building; improvements to sidewalk accessibility and safety; dedicated pick-up and drop-off area; and updates the parking area at the terminal.
GB-LCB-2019.2 (Gabriola Cannabis Limited)
The applicant has applied to the Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch (LCRB) for a Non-Medical Cannabis Retail Sales (CRS) License. Hours of operation would be limited to between 9:00 am to 11:00 pm, seven days a week, as is required by the LCRB.
The LCRB has requested that as the local government, the Gabriola Island Local Trust Committee consider this application. Section 33(1) of the Cannabis Control and Licensing Act prevents the LCRB from issuing a CRS licence without a positive recommendation from the local government (Islands Trust/Gabriola LTC).
As part of the application process, public input is being sought. The application will be the subject of a public meeting to be held on February 27, 2020 during the LTC regular business meeting at 10:30 am at the Gabriola Arts and Heritage Centre, 476 South Road, Gabriola.
