July 2019 | Gambier Island Special LTC Meeting and PUBLIC HEARING

There will be a Special Meeting of the Gambier Island Local Trust Committee on July 25, 2019 at 7:00pm at the Gambier Island Community Hall.  A Public Hearing will be held at 7:30pm to hear your views regarding Proposed Bylaw Nos. 148 and 149 - Riparian Areas Regulation.  The Public Hearing will be preceded by a presentation and question and answer session beginning at 7:00 PM.  For meeting details as well as the Public Hearing Notice please visit the meetings page and click on the meeting link in the Upcoming Meetings list.

June 2019 | Keats Shoreline Protection – Working Group – Requests for Expressions of Interest Now Closed

The Gambier Island Local Trust Committee's request for expressions of interest for its Keats Island Shoreline Protection Working Group has closed. Thank you for your interest and please visit the Project Webpage for updates as they become available.   

April 2019 | Gambier Island – Protection of Riparian Areas 

The Gambier Island Local Trust Committee hosted a webinar on April 29, 2019 at 7:00 PM on proposed changes to riparian area protection on Gambier Island.  Information and invitations were mailed to property owners and residents of Gambier Island.  Links to the recorded webinar and the PowerPoint slides may be found on the project page

January 2019 | LTC Endorses Phase 2 of Keats Island Shoreline Protection Project

At their regular business meeting held on January 31, 2019, the Gambier Island Local Trust Committee (LTC) deemed Phase 1 of the project complete and endorsed a Project Charter (v.1) for ‘Phase 2’ of the Keats Island Shoreline Protection Project.  See the project website for more information on Phase 2.  A link to Phase 1 may be found on our Completed Projects page.  

August 2018 | Housing Needs Assessment Report

Housing needs assessments are the first step a community can take to understand the gap(s) between the housing needs of its people and the availability of suitable housing to meet that need. The Northern Region Housing Needs Assessment is available here.

August 2018 | Keats Island Shoreline Protection Project - Presentation and Survey *THE SURVEY IS NOW CLOSED*

At the April 19, 2018 LTC regular meeting, the LTC endorsed a Project Charter for the Keats Island Shoreline Protection Project.  More information is available on the project webpage.  A survey regarding this project is now CLOSED.

September 2017 | Special Local Trust Committee Meeting

January 2017 | Gambier Island Local Trust Committee Special Meeting

The Gambier Island LTC is hosting a public session between Gambier Island residents and representatives of the Squamish Nation on February 2, 2017 at 1:30pm in the Harbourview Room of the John Braithwaite Community Centre in North Vancouver.  The public is welcome to attend. 

January 2017 | Gambier Island Advisory Planning Commission 

The Gambier Island Advisory Planning Commission will be receiving their orientation on Friday January 6, 2017 at 1:00pm in the Gambier Island Community Centre. The public is welcome to attend.   

November 2016 | Comments on Sunshine Coast Fixed Link Study Consultation

The  Sunshine Coast Fixed Link Feasibility Study public consultation closed on November 8, 2016. The Gambier Island Local Trust Committee Chair submitted a letter describing how a fixed link project could impact the Gambier Associated Islands and Local Trust Area. The Islands Trust Chair submitted a letter describing Trust Area interests.  

November 2016 | Letter of support regarding a federal park on Gambier Island

Letter of support from MLA Jordan Sturdy to the Minister of Environment and Climate Change and the CEO of Parks Canada regarding a federal park on Gambier Island. 

October 2016 | Public Comment on BURNCO Application

The  BURNCO Aggregate Project Application comment period closed on October 3, 2016. The Gambier Islands Local Trust Committee Chair submitted a letter describing how the project could impact the goals of the Gambier Island Official Community Plan, and the Islands Trust Chair submitted a letter describing Trust Area interests.

May 2015 | Howe Sound Science and Knowledge Workshop

Islands Trust Fund staff attended a Howe Sound Science and Knowledge workshop on March 27, 2015 and has provided a summary of the workshop’s events.

May 2015 | BURNCO application update

The BURNCO application to the Environmental Assessment Office (EAO) is slated to arrive in the summer. The EAO is inviting the public to submit their ideas for improving public consultation for this application. The online discussion is open until May 26, 105 at http://engage.gov.bc.ca/environmentalassessment/.

March 2015 | Submissions to EAO regarding Woodfibre LNG

As part of the public comment period for the Environmental Assessment for the Woodfibre LNG project, the Islands Trust sent in three letters (from the Islands Trust Chair and from the local trustees)  as well as a submission as a member of the Environmental Assessment Office (EAO) working group for the project.

Woodfibre LNG Limited, in cooperation with the Sunshine Coast Regional District and Gambier Island Local Trust Committee, is hosting a Roundtable Discussion on Saturday, March 21, 2015 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Gambier Community Centre, 721 Andy’s Bay Road, Gambier Island. Read more>>

January 2015 | Public Consultation on Woodfibre LNG Proposal

Woodfibre LNG Ltd has submitted the application to the BC Environmental Assessment Office (BC EAO). The public comment period on the environmental and technical details of the application will commence on Jan 22 to March 9 with open houses being held in Squamish (Jan 28), West Vancouver (Jan 29), and Bowen Island (Jan 30).  Read More >> 

December 2014 | Trustee Welcome

We would like to welcome Kate-Louise Stamford and Dan Rogers as the Trustees for the Gambier Local Trust Area.  We are also pleased to announce that Trustee Susan Morrison from the Lasqueti Local Trust Area will be acting as the chairperson for the Local Trust Committee.

At its October 23, 2014, meeting the LTC resolved to cancel their November 27, 2014, business meeting. 

September 2014 | Howe Sound Industrial Applications Update

Staff has prepared a memorandum tracking the response procedures for Gambier LTC and the Islands Trust regarding the various industrial projects proposed for Howe Sound.

April 2014 | Gambier Island LTC asks Minister for Consultation on Woodlots

In a letter to Minister Thomson, the Gambier Island Local Trust Committee Chair describes a history of a lack of consultation, community impacts of 25% of Gambier Island being up for active logging and asks for a public meeting.

March 2104 | Presentation on possible Cumulative Effects Framework for Howe Sound

On February 21, the Gambier Local Trust Committee hosted a webinar for the Howe Sound Community Forum.  Staff from the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resources Operations (FLNRO) presented a powerpoint on a possible Cumulative Effects Framework for Howe Sound.
