December 19, 2015 |  2016 Meeting Schedule Adopted

The online calendar is now updated with the 2016 business meeting schedule.  The schedule is subject to change, so please check the website for up-to-date meeting information.

December 15, 2015 |  Here's what you said!

The results of the survey are in!  Read the LTC review of the Work Program Priorities Questionnaire.  Thank you to everyone who filled out the online survey. 

November 30, 2015 | LTC Meeting Highlights 

The LTC issued a variance for application (MA-DVP-2015.1) and discussed the proposed community dock at Anson Rd; the planner will be asking the applicant for an environmental review of the site to be carried out and to look into the cost of a sewage pump-out facility. The results from the recent LTC Work Program Questionnaire were discussed, STVR guidelines and STVR use of cottages was discussed and the LTC directed the planner to proceed with the projects by preparing draft bylaw wording for the January 2016 LTC meeting.  The proposed Bylaw Enforcement Notification (BEN) Bylaw No. 156  was discussed and the manager of bylaw enforcement was asked to place the BEN bylaw on the January meeting agenda for consideration or adoption.  The 2016 LTC meeting schedule was adopted.   

November 15, 2015 | CIM Update

The LTC held a community information meeting (CIM) on Sunday, November 15 for the proposed rezoning of a water lot lease at Anson Rd. The applicant and staff explained the proposal, which would allow for a community dock, and answered questions from the public and LTC. The application will be on the November 30 business meeting for further discussion and LTC direction.

The Mayne Island Local Trust Committee (LTC) is canvasing Mayne Island residents and property owners in order to obtain community input on its work program.  The questionnaire is open until November 6, 2015.

October 19, 2015 | LTC Meeting Updates

The Local Trust Committee has cancelled its October 26, 2015 regular business meeting.  A community information meeting has been scheduled for November 15, 2015 RE: Application MA-RZ-2015.1 Anson Rd.

August 10, 2015 | APC Meeting Scheduled

The Mayne Island Advisory Planning Commission will meet Monday, August 10, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at the St. Mary Magdalene Anglican Church, 360 Georgina Point Rd to discuss the LTC referral regarding the bylaw enforcement notification process and proposed Bylaw No. 156.  Meetings are open to the public.

July 27, 2015 | LTC Meeting Highlights

The LTC approved an amended project charter for the three OCP/LUB Review topics.  The LTC approved a work program questionnaire to be mailed out the last week in August to land owners and to on-island mail boxes.   The Islands Trust Strategic Plan was discussed and the Mayne LTCs priorities are to be forwarded to the Islands Trust CAO. 2015/2016 LTC budget request was approved as drafted.  The next LTC meeting date has been changed from September 28 to September 30, 2015.  

June 29, 2015 | LTC Meeting Highlights

The local trust committee approved a project charter - to be posted shortly - for its top priority,  commercial land use review.  A motion passed to place rezoning applications for commercial rezonings in abeyance until July 2016 when the 1st phase of the commercial land use review is complete.  The LTC requested staff to forward Greenshores information to all waterfront land owners.  

May 25, 2015 | LTC Meeting Highlights

There a was presentation by the Mayne Island Conservancy on a wetland mapping project they just completed.  The local trust committee revised the project charter for the OCP/LUB Review to include the assessment of the use of cottages for short term vacation rental.  Staff was directed to prepare a project charter for the Commercial Land Use Review project.

April 27, 2015 | LTC Meeting Highlights

The LTC will send a letter to the President of the Chamber of Shipping of BC requesting information on oil spill preparation for Plumper Sound.  It was requested that an existing project charter  be amended to include the review of allowing cottages to be used for STVR’s.  A public hearing was held for proposed Bylaws No. 161 and 162.  The two bylaws were given further readings and forwarded to the Executive Committee of the Islands Trust for approval and proposed Bylaw No. 161 will be forwarded to the Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development for approval. The LTCs top priorities were amended to the following list: Commercial Land Use Review, OCP/LUB Amendments, and Fallow Deer eradication.  The Islands Trust strategic plan was discussed and the LTC will finalize its comments at the May 25, 2015 LTC meeting.  Interested members of the public should forward their comments regarding the strategic plan here

April 27, 2015 | Notice of Public Hearing

The LTC will hold a Public Hearing on Monday, April 27, regarding Proposed Bylaw No. 161 which, in general terms, will be making technical amemdments to the OCP as well, redesignating Lot 8 Plan VIP66907 from Rural to Public Service; and Proposed Bylaw No. 162 which, in general terms, will be making technical amendments to the LUB as well as including Waste Transfer Facility as a permitted use in Industrial One zone.  Read More >> 

April 14, 2015 | Secondary Suites Now Permitted

Secondary Suites are now permitted, in certain areas, within the Mayne Island Trust area.  A brochure is available to answer FAQ's.  For more information, click here.

March 30, 2015 | LTC Meeting Highlights

The local trust committee (LTC) will send a letter to CRD Director David Howe requesting that a long-term deer management plan be prepared in consultation with Islands Trust staff.  A project charter was endorsed by the LTC regarding the review of density on large remainder lots and reviewing policies and regulations regarding short-term vacation rentals.  Application MA-DVP-2015.1 (Mathison) was reviewed by the LTC - the variance was approved.  The LTC reappointed Ian Birtwell, Bill Bender, Sally Manson, Stephen Cropper, Gerry Wise, Dennis Emmett, and welcome new member, Chris Roehrig to the Advisory Planning Commission

 February 23, 2015 | LTC Meeting Highlights

The LTC reviewed application MA-DVP-2014.1 (Hollingshead) – the variance was approved. Regarding its Work Program, the LTC set the following Top Priorities: OCP/LUB Amendment (Density Provisions on Large Lots) (TUP Policies) (Short Term Vacation Rental Review), OCP/LUB Technical Amendments (Including Waste Transfer), and Fallow Deer Eradication.  The LTC also endorsed an implementation plan, prepared by staff, to provide information regarding secondary suites. An initiative for staff to prepare a questionnaire regarding LTC work program projects was supported by the LTC.  

January 26, 2015 | LTC Meeting Highlights

At its first regular meeting of the new term the LTC introduced a new meeting format, holding a town hall session at the beginning and end of each meeting. The following applications were reviewed; MA-DVP-2014.2 (Rieber), and MA-SUB-2014.1 (Milne) with respect to road dedication. Bylaws 159 (OCP) and 160 (LUB) - to allow secondary suites on portions of the island - were approved.  Reviewing its Work Program, the LTC set the following top priorities: Secondary Suites (to be retained until implementation plan prepared), OCP/LUB amendments (until the inclusion of waste transfer zoning is considered), and Fallow Deer Eradication.  The next LTC meeting is February 23, 2015 at the Agricultural Hall.
