Project Purpose
This project will amend the Salt Spring Island Official Community Plan to authorize the Salt Spring Island Local Trust Committee (SSI LTC) to issue Temporary Use Permits (TUPs) for residential uses. It will also establish guidelines the Local Trust Committee can apply when considering issuance of TUPs for residential uses.
Bylaw No. 471 has been developed to implement the Local Trust Committee (LTC) objectives for this project.
Project Update
At its meeting of December 15, 2020, the LTC resolved that the objectives of this project should form part of the LTC’s greater Housing Challenges and Solutions project. As such, staff will take no further action to advance OCP amendments that would allow the LTC to issue temporary use permits for residential uses until such time as the subject is considered as part of the LTC’s Housing Challenges and Solutions project.
On Monday, March 2, 2020 the SSI LTC hosted a Community Information Meeting (CIM), seeking to solicit feedback and recommendations to improve Bylaw No. 471.
Minutes from the March 2, 2020 CIM are available here.
Written submissions received at the March 2, 2020 CIM are available here. Thank you to everyone who attended the CIM or has contributed ideas to the development of Bylaw No. 471. The SSI LTC will give further consideration to the bylaw at a future meeting.
