November 19, 2016 | SENĆOŦEN History of Saturna Islands

October 20, 2016 | LTC Meeting Highlights

The Saturna LTC endorsed two Local Trust Committee Projects: Fist Nations relationship building and Land Use bylaw technical review.  These two projects will consume the LTCs and staffs time for the foreseeable future. The first step in the First Nations relationship building will be to hold a community meeting with SENCOTEN-speaking elders to talk about how the WSANEC (Saanich) people view and connect historically and culturally with the waters and land of Saturna Island. The 2017 meeting schedule was also adopted.

October 12, 2016 | Saturna Island Advisory Planning Commission

The Saturna Island Local Trust Committee (LTC) is accepting expressions of interest for (2) volunteer Advisory Planning Commission positions.  The deadline to apply is November 28, 2016.  More information can be found here >>>

September 16, 2016 | LTC Meeting Highlights

At the regular business meeting on September 16 a variance for a retaining wall on a Boot Cove property (SA-DVP-2016.1) was considered and the LTC decided that it will consider issuance of the permit once screening is provided.  The LTC's top work priorities were discussed and amended and the LTCs two priorities are now: 1) First Nations relationship building and 2)  Land Use Bylaw Technical review.

September 15, 2016 | Saturna Island Minute Taker Contract Opportunity

June 17, 2016 | LTC Meeting Highlights

The LTC amended its top work priorities so they now are: Review of Density Transfer Mechanisms;  Land Use Bylaw Technical Review; Amenity Zoning Review; and Water Resource Protection. The LTC cancelled the Roundtable meeting for July 16 and rescheduled it for July 23.  A meeting to discuss density transfer mechanisms is also being arranged.  Dr. Diana Allen is presenting “Estimating Groundwater Recharge to the Gulf Islands: Challenges and Progress” on Friday August 19, 2016.  The location will either be Salt spring Island or Sidney and the LTC will be attending. The Saturna Community can attend - anyone wishing to attend should RSVP by June 30, 2016 to Shannon Cowan at ssiwpacoord@gmail.com.  The Local Trustees briefed the meeting attendees on their recent meeting with the Tsawout First Nation. 

April 21, 2016 | LTC Meeting Highlights

The Saturna LTC held business meeting on April 21, 2016 and discussed the following projects:

  1. Density Review – staff was asked to prepare a terms of reference for a density review committee.
  2. Water Resource  - Protection – staff was asked to see if Dr. Allen could be available to present her report on “Risk of Saltwater Intrusion in Coastal Bedrock Aquifers: Gulf Islands  BC” at a further LTC meeting
  3. Community Profile – survey results were presented, LTC requested that results be reviewed in more detail.  

 February 18, 2016 | LTC Meeting Highlights

The LTC met and considered and issued a temporary use permit for a campground (SA-TUP-2015.1 Fitzgerald) by the ferry terminal.  The LTC also discussed its work program priorities.  A density transfer discussion paper was provided by the planner, the LTC will discuss the paper with the community at its community roundtable meeting on March 12, 2016.   A paper prepared by  Jeanette Klassen (M.Sc.) and Diana M. Allen (Ph.D) titled “Risk of Salt Water Intrusion in Coastal Bedrock Aqifers:Gulf Islands, BC” was discussed as part of the LTC Water Resource Protection work program priority. An update was given on the LTCs Community Profile Survey. The next Business Mtg of the LTC is scheduled for April 21.  

January 26, 2016 | Community Profile Survey

The LTC asked Saturna Island residents and property owners to complete a Community Profile Questionnaire. The Community Profile was one of three LTC top work priority projects  on the LTC’s work program.  The survey closed February 29, 2016 at 4:30 p.m and the results can be found here >>>

January 21, 2016 | LTC Meeting Highlights

The LTC adopted its 2016 business meeting schedule.  The schedule is subject to change, check the meeting calendar for up-to-date meeting information. 

January 21, 2016 | Community Information Meeting (CIM) Scheduled

The LTC will hold a CIM within its regular business meeting on January 21, 2016 regarding an application for a temporary use permit for a proposed campsite with a washroom, shower, and laundry facility located at 100 East Point Rd.  For more information about this application, click here>> 

January 19, 2016 | Water Resource Protection

As one of its top priorities, the LTC will review water resource protection on Saturna Island.  A drought analysis report created for Salt Spring Island was asked to be shared with Saturna islanders by Chair Grams.  Read the report - click here>> 

January 11, 2016 | 2016 Meeting Schedule

Through a resolution with out meeting dated December 16, 2015 the LTC adopted two meeting dates: January 21 and February 18 for 2016.  The remaining 2016 meeting dates will be addressed with a proposed schedule at the January 21, 2016 meeting at the Community Hall, 12:30 pm -105 East Point Rd.
